The Cake That Turns Italian Skeptics Into Repeat Customers

Tiramisu without mascarpone, without ladyfingers, without eggs, and without alcohol — on paper, this should not work. In practice, it is one of the cakes Italian visitors come back for. Holiday-makers from Milan, Rome, Bologna order it cautiously the first time, expecting compromise; the second order is usually the same week.

The translation is honest. Mascarpone becomes cashew cream — soaked cashews blended with coconut milk, vanilla, and a touch of agave, then layered with the same coffee and cocoa profile that gives traditional tiramisu its character. The base is almonds, dates, real ground coffee, raw cocoa, and a pinch of Himalayan salt — that takes the place of the espresso-soaked savoiardi. The top is dusted with cocoa, which is exactly where you would expect it.

It tastes like tiramisu. Lighter than the dairy original, less heavy on the palate, but the flavour signature — coffee, cocoa, vanilla cream, that faint salt edge — is unmistakable. This is also a different page from our tiramisu blog post: the blog explains how the cake came together; this is the page to order it.

Real Ground Coffee, Not Coffee Flavouring

Ground coffee in the base, natural coffee in the cream. We do not use coffee extract or instant coffee paste. The aroma when you open the box is the giveaway — this is a coffee cake first, sweet cake second.

Cashew Cream Stands In For Mascarpone

Soaked cashews blended with coconut milk and vanilla — silkier than mascarpone, less heavy. The texture is what gets Italian customers across the line: it carries the cocoa and coffee the same way the dairy version does.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it actually taste like real tiramisu?
Yes — the flavour signature is there: coffee, cocoa, vanilla cream, faint salt. The texture is different (silkier, lighter — no ladyfingers to soak), but the taste profile is recognisably tiramisu. Italian customers who order it a second time are the proof point we trust most.
What kind of coffee do you use?
Real ground coffee in the base layer, natural coffee in the cream. No instant, no extract, no flavouring paste. The brand and roast varies but it is always actual ground coffee — that is what gives the cake its aroma when the box opens.
Is the cake caffeinated — can children eat it?
Yes there is real coffee in it, but the per-slice caffeine is roughly equivalent to a third of a cup of coffee for a Big-cake slice, less for smaller portions. Most parents are comfortable serving it to children over 8; for younger kids or caffeine-sensitive guests, choose a different flavour. We can advise on totals if you ask by WhatsApp.
Why no Marsala or coffee liqueur?
We make the cake alcohol-free as standard so it works for kids, pregnant guests, recovering drinkers, and people who want to drive home after a slice. If you specifically want a splash of liqueur or rum for an adult occasion, mention it on the order form — we can adjust by WhatsApp confirmation.
How is this different from your tiramisu blog post?
The blog post (/raw-vegan-cake-tiramisu/) is a story about the recipe — how we developed it, what we tested, what got cut. This page is the order page for the actual cake. Different intent: blog reads, this one converts.
What occasions suit a tiramisu cake?
Adult-leaning birthdays, anniversaries, end-of-dinner desserts where the cake replaces the espresso course, or any group with Italian guests. Less ideal for very young children's parties (real coffee), and not the right pick if your guests dislike strong coffee — the flavour is unapologetic.
