The Cake For People Who Want More Than One Thing Going On

Most cakes are essentially one flavour with a topping. This one is four layers, each with its own job. The base is almonds and dates, pressed firm. Above that, a chocolate cream — cashew, coconut milk, agave, raw cocoa. Above that, a date caramel — dates, peanut paste, coconut milk, coconut oil, dark and slightly salty. The top layer is a coconut-flake cream with a hint of lemon to lift the whole stack. Eat from base to top and the cake tells a small story; eat through the layers in one bite and the flavours compress into something denser than any of them on their own.

It is also our most Tenerife-friendly flavour. Coconut belongs on this island the way ham belongs in Andalucía — it shows up in the local cuisine, in the cocktails, in the bakeries — so a coconut-led cake reads as a fit-for-place dessert. Holiday-makers tend to lean into it; locals tend to default to it.

Order it for adult-leaning birthdays, anniversaries, dinner-party finales, or any group that has eaten enough cake to want something more architectural than "chocolate cake". If you want simpler, look at the strawberry cheesecake; if you want sweeter and more candy-like, the Snickers cake overlaps in flavour but is less layered.

🪜

Four Distinct Layers, Each Doing A Different Job

Almond-date base, chocolate cream, date-peanut caramel, coconut cream finish. The base anchors, the chocolate carries weight, the caramel adds depth, the coconut lifts. Most other cakes have two or three components — this one earns the extra step.

🍮

Date-Based Caramel — No Sugar, No Cream

The caramel layer is dates blended with peanut paste, coconut milk, and coconut oil — dark, slightly salty, sticky. Every other vegan caramel we have tasted in Tenerife uses agave syrup and starch; ours is built on whole fruit, which is why it reads as deeper and less sweet.

🌴

A Coconut Cake That Belongs On This Island

Coconut is everywhere in Tenerife — in the granizados, in the local pastry, in the Atlantic-vibes cocktail menus. A coconut-led cake reads as fit-for-place, especially for visitors. The cream layer is built on shredded coconut, not coconut essence.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the four layers, top to bottom?
From the top: coconut-flake cream (cashew + coconut milk + shredded coconut + lemon), date caramel (dates + peanut paste + coconut milk + coconut oil), chocolate cream (cashew + coconut milk + raw cocoa + agave), and an almond-date base. Each layer is set in the freezer before the next is poured.
Does it taste mostly of chocolate, coconut, or caramel?
Coconut leads on the first bite (top layer), caramel and chocolate dominate the middle, the almond base finishes. If you eat top to bottom, coconut. If you eat in one bite stack, the chocolate-caramel combination dominates with coconut as the lift. No single flavour overpowers the others.
Is the caramel real caramel or just a swirl of something?
A full layer, not a swirl — about 8–10mm thick depending on cake size. Made from dates blended with peanut paste, coconut milk, and coconut oil. Sticky, dark, slightly salty. No refined sugar, no condensed milk, no caramel sauce from a bottle.
How does it differ from the Snickers cake — both have chocolate, peanut, caramel?
The Snickers cake reads as a candy bar: sweeter, simpler, more direct. The choco-caramel coconut is more layered and architectural — coconut adds a third major flavour, and the layering is deliberate rather than mixed. Choose Snickers if your guests want a treat; choose this for guests who want a more interesting cake.
Will it hold its shape on a hot Tenerife day?
Frozen, yes. As it defrosts, the cream layers soften — that is fine while it is sliceably soft, less fine when it is fully room-temperature in 30°C summer. Practical advice: take it out of the freezer 60–90 minutes before serving in summer (vs the usual 2–3 hours), and serve it slightly cool rather than fully soft.
Does it contain peanuts (allergy)?
Yes — the caramel uses peanut paste. This cake is not safe for anyone with a peanut allergy. The Snickers cake also contains peanuts; all other flavours on our menu are peanut-free. Tree nuts (almonds, cashews) appear in every cake we make.
